what makes foundations.(au) different to other charities?
our mission, at foundations.(au), is to provide programs to enrich the lives of children. we are different to other charities because we believe that 'better' is not good enough. a child from the developing world deserves a rich and fulfilling life, in the same way as a child in the developed world. it is not simply good enough because it is an improvement on what they currently experience. at foundations.(au), we are driven by a desire for social justice, not by charity.
at foundations.(au), we passionately believe in community-led action and consultation in order to empower the communities in which we work. we want to bring energy, fresh approaches and open minds to old problems. we are continually governed by the principles of accountability, transparency, integrity and cultural respect.
finally, foundations.(au) is unique organisation. because of our small size, our team of volunteers are all incredibly dedicated with big hearts. our size allows us to identify any concerns on the ground in Uganda as soon as they arise and therefore deal with them quickly and efficiently. our team in Australia is in daily communication with foundations.(ug), getting regular reports on project progression and updates on the children in our care. by the end of 2010 foundations.(au) representatives will also be based in Uganda to ensure continued accountability.
our relationship with our donors. will i get a receipt? of course, all receipts are issued by 'ourcommunity/givenow' on behalf of foundations.(au) monthly. who is 'ourcommunity/give now'?
'ourcommunity/givenow' is a world leading social network that provides advice, tools and training for Australia's 700,000 community groups and schools. it also offers practical linkages between the community sector, the general public and the government. givenow is an online giving portal, supported by Westpac, where you can donate your money and other various items to any of the community groups listed on their website. are they taking any money? foundations.(au) collect all online processed donations through the service provided by 'ourcommunity/givenow'. this is a totally secure and free service, which ensures that 100% of your donation is going directly to the project you wish to donate to. please note that credit card transaction fees are deducted from the donation. are donations tax deductible? right now, the majority of donations are contributing to the running of our children's home, our place, and the running of the health, education and social programs in Uganda.
for more information on our other projects, particularly in the areas of health, education and women's empowerment, have a look at projects.
foundations.(au) also plans to build a community centre and health clinic in Nyakasiru village. the community centre will be run by the community, for the benefit of the community. by incorporating the invaluable knowledge and skills of local community members, the centre is designed to maintain a strong sense of Ugandan culture and become an integral part of village life. the health clinic will provide a desperately needed medical service to the village, as well as run education programs on hygiene and the prevention and treatment of disease. with no direct access to medical care and facilities, every year a heartbreaking number of people are dying from preventable and treatable illness. foundations.(au) aims to reduce the number of these preventable deaths. we are currently saving for the build of this centre and clinic.
can I sponsor a child?
yes, absolutely! please get in touch with us to find out how. foundations.(au) are currently and very proudly sponsoring 12 children of all different ages and levels at school. or, have a look at the child sponsorship page on this website. can the children be adopted? no. foundations.(au) is committed to caring for the children in country. we respect every child’s ties to their family, tribe and country. what happens when the children turn 18?
several of the children, especially the boys from the streets have missed out on many years of schooling. therefore, they will not complete secondary school until they are 24 or 25. foundations.(au) is committed to caring for these children while they are completing school. our priority, at foundations.(au) is to educate and train the children in our care so that they can become gainfully employed or self-sufficient (through farming, agriculture, craft-based skills) by the end of their time with us. by focusing on creating futures for these children, we are able to break the cycle of poverty and change the outlook for entire family units and communities. if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to send us an email: contactus@foundationsau.org
