the project.
'our place' is a safe and happy home where children are raised to be independent individuals who are loved, respected, educated, healthy and valued. The vision of the world we are trying to create is very much a reality at our place. We provide the highest level of care for children from all over Uganda regardless of their faith, tribe or background.

As well as providing a home for orphaned and vulnerable children we provide employment opportunities for local men and women in Uganda. We are one of the only homes in the district to offer counselling services to our children. To meet some of the wonderful staff at our place check our their profiles on the foundations.(ug) team page.

All children are now attending school, receiving healthy, nutritional and tasty meals, have access to medical care and counselling services and are able to enjoy life in a way that was once foreign to them. Head to the our place achievements page for a more detailed look at the past year.

our commitment.
In order to ensure the best standard of care possible and the most fulfilling experience for young people entering our place, it is our commitment that life enriching programs are developed holistically in accordance with the needs of Ugandan children and their community. foundations.(au) recognises the importance of tailoring support specific to individual children and their needs throughout their stay. Our aim is to provide food, shelter, health care and a return to education in a loving environment that builds trust and security and where the essence of childhood is encouraged.

The commitment to care not only involves a focus on physical wellbeing and safety, an equal importance is placed on a child's emotional health and development. The children who live at our place house have experienced a high level of trauma and loss. staff at our place are committed to providing a holistic approach to care, including a therapeutic focus, with professional grief counseling, post-trauma and attachment-based work with young people entering care from the community.

Through the development of physical and emotional safety and wellbeing, young people staying at our place will have the space to grow in confidence and independence. our plan is to provide opportunities for young people to have a voice and develop greater self-reliance in their lives. These opportunities extend significantly to education at our place, where emphasis will be placed on learning and understanding. There is a commitment at our place, to providing educational prospects that increase confidence, hope and possibilities for Ugandan children.

keeping in touch with culture.
It is integral at our place to maintain a strong sense of Ugandan culture for the children who live at our place. Each of the childrem are proud to be Ugandan and we at foundations.(au) believe that a well established connection and understanding of cultural origin is vital for a child's emotional development, specifically in developing a healthy sense of self and a sense of belonging. We are committed to supporting young people to keep in touch with their cultural identity, including spirituality and community connection.

update.
In July and September of 2011 'our place' became home to four more children from the Kabale district, a set of siblings and an abandoned 10 month old baby boy. foundations.(au) also secured the property behind the existing home which allows for a much needed expansion and greater security. A new fence and gate is set to be built before the year is out as well as a counselling room, a craft and home work room and another set of bathroom facilities.
